Admissions Overview
At Sage Alliance NYC, we are committed to providing a personalized and supportive admissions process for families exploring our school. Our admissions pathway includes both private pay and Department of Education (DOE) reimbursement options. Below, you’ll find a step-by-step guide to applying, answers to frequently asked questions, and details on the required documentation.
Admissions Process
Request a Tour
We encourage families to begin by visiting our school and meeting our team. Tours allow you to experience our unique approach to education and determine if Sage Alliance NYC is the right fit for your child.
Complete the Admissions Application
Following your tour, you will receive a link to our Admissions Application. The application requires essential student information, including academic and clinical documentation.
Submit Required Documentation
Families must submit the following documents along with the application:
- Neuropsychological Evaluation
- Individualized Education Program (IEP) (if your student has one, it is not required)
- Most recent report card
- Speech and Language Evaluation (if applicable)
Intake
Once we receive your completed application and documents, our team will contact you to schedule an intake assessment to assess the student’s fit at Sage Alliance NYC. This process includes:
- Student Interview
- The student interview provides the admissions team with an opportunity to understand each candidate beyond their academic and psychosocial records. During the interview, they explore the student's educational journey by discussing previous schools attended, grades received, and any specialized support the student has had or hopes to receive. With empathy and curiosity, the team explores the student’s psychosocial experiences, learning about family relationships and instances of resilience in the face of trauma, grief, anxiety, or depression, as well as relationships with peers. The goal of this conversation is to highlight the student's strengths, coping strategies, and willingness to grow while also identifying their unique interests, talents, and aspirations.
- Parent/Guardian Interview
- The parent interview is a meaningful conversation designed to gain a deeper understanding of the student’s emotional and behavioral needs. With empathy and collaboration, the admissions team listens as parents and guardians share their concerns, hopes, and goals—painting a fuller picture of their child’s strengths and challenges. This dialogue also explores the family’s coping strategies and support network, fostering a partnership grounded in trust. Together, we discuss the school’s philosophy, the vital role of family involvement, and the shared vision for the child’s growth, healing, and future success.
Admissions Decision
After completing the intake assessment, our team will review all application materials and determine the best placement for your child.
Next steps if student is approved for enrollment:
- For private pay families, a contract will be provided to move forward with enrollment.
- For families seeking DOE reimbursement, we recommend consulting with a special education advocate or attorney to navigate the funding process.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Can I visit the school?
Yes! We encourage families to take a tour before applying to get a better understanding of the school and the support we offer students.
-
What is the difference between a Tour Request Form and an Application Form?
The Tour Request Form tells the Director of Admissions that your family would like to tour our school; it does not indicate your interest in applying to our school. Please be sure to submit a completed application if you would like your child to be considered for admission.
-
Does Sage Alliance NYC offer college preparation programs?
Yes! We provide a rigorous academic curriculum (college prep or honors track) designed to help students achieve their post-secondary goals, including preparation for college and career pathways. 100% of Sage Alliance students graduate with a post-secondary plan.
-
What are the school hours and school year length?
Sage Alliance NYC offers a 10-month school year. Our school day begins at 8:20 AM and ends at 2:30 PM, with the option of clubs offered until 3:30 PM. Bussing is provided by OPT for students whose IEP mandates transportation.
-
Is Sage Alliance NYC funded by the DOE?
Sage Alliance NYC is a private school and is considered a unilateral private school placement for your child. Tuition can be covered through:
- Private Pay: Families who opt for private pay will receive a tuition agreement and can move forward with enrollment upon completion of the admissions process.
- Tuition Reimbursement: To see tuition reimbursement from the NYC Department of Education, families must work with an advocate or attorney. For families seeking Department of Education tuition reimbursement, we recommend first consulting a special education attorney or advocate to assist with the legal process. The Department of Education procedures for securing funding involve litigation to establish need and eligibility.
