On April 27, our location in Mahwah, NJ held their biannual “Stars of Character” assembly. Twice a year, staff members nominate students across all grade levels for each pillar of character, and then the votes are tallied up. A total of 12 students win each academic year, and the award is quite prestigious. The winning students have their names put on a plaque in the hallway, and each winner receives a “Stars of Character” T-shirt and a certificate signed by the principal. 

The lucky staff members who got to nominate students were Mrs. Barrett, Mrs. Granek, and Mr. Weigmen. They are asked to nominate a student to be recognized for each of the six pillars of character, including Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship. The winners are invited to a “Stars of Character” breakfast on May 31. At the breakfast, winners and their families are invited to celebrate and enjoy some refreshments in honor of their achievement.
