English teacher Jennifer Kummer, and Boonton Campus Principal Viki Wilson, recently presented a highly successful workshop at the New Jersey Council for Exceptional Children (NJCEC) Spring Conference at Ramapo College. The workshop, titled “Teaching Students with Mental Health Disorders,” was attended by a packed classroom of educators who were eager to learn from their insights.
During the workshop, Jennifer and Viki provided valuable information on Emotional Regulation Impairment, other Individualized Education Program (IEP) classifications, such as other health impairment and specific learning disability, and the least restrictive environment. They also shared practical skills, behaviors, modifications, and accommodations that can be used to support students with mental health disorders. Additionally, they discussed common behaviors and accommodations, and provided hands-on practice scenarios to help educators better understand how to support these students.
We are incredibly proud of Jennifer and Viki for their dedication to providing quality education and support to students with mental health disorders. Their workshop was a huge success, and we are confident that the knowledge and skills they shared will positively impact countless students and educators in the future.
